Liverpool could suffer if Neymar’s proposed move to Santos falls through.

Neymar was considered one of the best players in the world when he broke into the limelight in 2009.

The Brazilian was wanted by Europe’s best sides, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He would eventually sign for Barcelona in 2013 before moving to PSG for a world-record fee four years later.

His time at the French club was hampered by injuries and lack of fitness and form, and after six largely underwhelming seasons, he left for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old’s move to the Saudi club was reported to be worth €90 million, making him the most expensive purchase in the Saudi Pro League.

He is also reportedly being paid €150m a year at Al Hilal, six times the amount he earned at PSG.

However, less than two years after joining Al Hilal, Neymar is on the move again, and his transfer could impact Liverpool negatively.

Neymar close to Santos move

According to reports by ESPN, Neymar is closing in on a return to Brazil to join his boyhood side Santos?

His exit will likely see Al-Hilal push to bring in another superstar signing, especially as they will now have funds to spend.

Neymar’s wage at the Saudi club is worth close to £90m a year.

With such funds freed up, Al-Hilal will be desperate to sign another superstar, given that the upcoming Club World Cup will commence in June, and the competition presents a big stage for Al-Hilal to impress.

The player that they could mostly target is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian remains a dream signing for most Saudi clubs, given his reputation in the Arab world and his profile as a superstar.

Salah’s protracted contract situation at Liverpool also offers Al-Hilal the encouragement that they could get the 32-year-old.

While Salah is reportedly keen on staying at Liverpool, the money Al-Hilal may be willing to offer now that Neymar is gone could be such that may be too tempting for the Egyptian to reject.
